Cockle Joins Tigers
Posted 05/08/04

Following on from his gritty
performances in the Tigers colours last weekend away to Berwick and
at home to Hull, the promotion have offered 18-year-old James Cockle
a reserve spot until the end of the season.
Cockle has accepted the offer and will
come into the team to face Somerset on Sunday at Ashfield.
There are very few three point riders
available and James has earned himself the chance of Premier League
speedway. Based in Cambridgeshire, it also says a lot for James commitment
that, unlike many other youngsters offered the opportunity earlier on
in the season, he is willing to travel.
At the beginning of the season, James
was named as sharing the number 7 berth at Reading with Steven Braidford
but he was afforded only three starts by the Smallmead club, who made
it clear that Braidford was their preferred choice.
He has been riding Conference League
this season as a team mate of the other new Glasgow face this week,
David McAllan and attained a league average in 14 meetings of around
7.5 points.
Since taking up speedway 4 years ago
James seems to do better on the bigger tracks. Hopefully his time at
Ashfield for the rest of this season will see him quickly master smaller
ones.
Good luck to James and welcome to Glasgow!
