Glasgow v Somerset-8th August

Posted 07/08/04

Somerset visit Glasgow this weekend to face a Tigers side looking very different to the one they beat 46-44 on the eve of this years British Grand Prix.

Since that meeting, out have gone Graham Jones, Corey Blackman and for this week only Eric Carrillo to be replaced by David McAllan, James Cockle and Barry Campbell.

Tigers will be keen to avenge the last heat defeat at Somerset in style and claim the bonus point. Although without high scoring reserve Eric Carrillo, it is hoped that James gGrieves will return from injury and the Tigers top end in particular should prove too strong for the Rebels.

Somerset are 'under new management' this season with a strong ex-Swindon connection and many comments were made at the start of the season about them being the 'Dad's Army' of Premier League speedway. However although slightly older than most teams tehy have blended in a couple of youngsters with a certain degree of success and are no easy target.

It will be interesting to see how John Jorgensen fares at Ashfield after his excellent performance at Somerset. Neil Collins is in the second string berth for this meeting with Steve Bishop now a strong looking reserve. He is joined in the reserves by Simon Walker who's style is rather unique! Glenn Cunningham will be looking to provide good backup to Jorgensen although Jamie Smith may be a little out of his depth at number 3. The experienced Paul Fry completes the line up for the Rebels.

Overall it is difficult to see anything other than a very comfortable home win with the bonus point remaining in Glasgow when the Rebels return home.
