Edinburgh v Glasgow 13th August

Posted 11/08/04

Unusually it has been quite some time since the rivals met, so this weekends long awaited Derby matches are keenly awaited.

As with any other sport, form does not matter when it comes to derby meetings, feelings run high, pride is paramount, crowds large and anticipation intense.

Both teams have effectively under acheived this year and realistically the derby meetings are the main feature of the remainder of the season for both.

Shane Parker and George Stancl both recently went well at Armadale in the Scottish open and its hoped that their form continues. Shane however is still struggling from last weeks accident against Somerset.

James Grieves knows the Armadale circuit(and fans!)well and Glasgow will be looking to him to counter the threat of Theo Pijper and Peter Carr. In reality, Rory Schlein is likely to be the best rider on the night.

Paul blows hot and cold and Armadale isn't one of his better tracks. He will need to be on form for the Tigers. New reserve James Cockle has ridden the track a couple of times this season with different levels of success but will find it hard. David McAllan knows the track better than most but will find it hard in the main body of the team.

A lot rests with Eric Carrillo and how he adapts on his first visit to a track many riders find it difficult to come to terms with quickly.

Overall, the Monarchs will probably just edge it though it should be a close meeting and hopefully that will be enough to claim the bonus point on Sunday.
