Who'll Finish Second?
Posted 20/08/04
This weekend sees the PL fours competition,
once again held at Workington. Given the massive home track advantage
at Derwent Park this season the question has to be 'so who will finish
second?'.
There are eight teams in the event, split into two
'semi-finals' of four teams each. In the semi-final each rider has two
rides, the normal scoring system applies (3,2,1,0) and the top two teams
go through to the final.
In the final each rider has three rides and the winners
are the team with the highest points tally - probably also known as
Workington!
So what of Glasgows chances?
Well given their most recent display at Derwent Park,
I doubt if many give them much chance of even qualifying. They have
however been drawn in the second semi final alongside Edinburgh (who
were as bad as us there this year!), Rye House (who were beaten heavily
there the week before Glasgow) and Hull who have yet to visit Workington
in the league.
Obviously Glasgow's four will be Shane Parker, George
Stancl, James Grieves and Paul Bentley with Eric Carrillo at reserve.
Form would suggest that Hull, also good gaters, should
qualify leaving the other three to fight out the remaining place. rye
House's main threat should be Davey Watt whilst Rory Schlein is known
to like the big track for the Monarchs.
The other semi-final will be contested between Workington
Reading, Stoke and Berwick with Reading and Stoke presumably fighting
for the second qualification spot.
