Early Start to Season?
Posted 04/12/04
As one or two of the other decisions made at
the Conference begin to leak out it appears that teams have the option
to start their season even earlier in 2005.
Last season, meetings could take place from 15th March
but speedway was badly hit by postponements in April due to the bad
weather.
As a result, it has been decided this year that teams
can start their season as early as 1st March in 2005. The reasoning
behind this is apparently to take advantage of dry spring weather!
As it would mean press and practice days for some clubs
in February it seems unlikely that many - if in fact any - will choose
to start their season that early but it does look like there will be
speedway in early March.
One other rule that seems to be coming to light but
was not publicised is a decision to allow Australian riders to come
over on 4 points instead of 5 as was previously the case.
This seems a very strange decision when speedway is
trying to look at how to improve the development of British riders.
