Rusty No Longer in Tigers Plans
Posted 20/12/04
Long term possible signing target Rusty Harrison
will definitely not be joining Glasgow Tigers in 2005 after signing
for Edinburgh.
Harrison had been sounded out as a possible signing
for Glasgow but knew that this was on the condition that the Tigers
could get another rider at the same time to fit into the averages and
thus prevent a repeat of last years Leverington scenario. The failed
attempt to sign Lubos Tomicek undoubtedly put this arrangement at risk.
The Glasgow promotion had kept Rusty fully updated
and he chose then to open discussions with other interested clubs who
could confirm an offer rather than wait on the off chance.
The news will actually be greeted with relief by many
Tigers fans who felt that it would not be a good move to bring the Aussie
back. Long memories mean many have not forgiven him for the way he left
Glasgow Tigers four years ago.
In addition some felt that he was prone to manipulating
his own average at the expense of his team in recent years.
His signing for Edinburgh could well come back to haunt
us but had he signed for the Tigers it would probably have been one
of the more controversial signings in recent years and the mere thought
of it had definitely split the support.
