Jonah's Last Stand

Posted 10/07/04

Glasgow Tigers make the relatively short (in speedway terms!) journey to Workington tonight to take on the Comets at Derwent Park. Although it was announced yesterday that Graham Jones is quitting speedway he has agreed to ride in this one last meeting to allow theTigers to avoid the use of rider replacement.

Glasgow will be hoping to do better than their last visit to Derwent earlier this season when they suffered a heavy 59-35 defeat. The winter changes to Derwent Park seem to have changed the track to provide the Comets with a fairly hefty home track advantage and quite a few teams have suffered heavy defeats there this season.

Eric Carrillo is expected to ride despite the hand injury sustained at Kings Lynn on Wednesday night, Jonah will presumably be on borrowed machinery.

Comets have no injury worries and will be at full strength for this meeting.

It is unlikely to be anything other than a home win but hopefully the Tigers can limit the damage to have a chance of claiming the bonus when the Cumbrians come to Ashfield.

Expected line ups:-

Workington:-
1. Carl Stonehewer
2. Aiden Collins
3. Rusty Harrison
4. Kauko Nieminen
5. Simon Stead
6. James Wright
7. Brett Woodifield

Glasgow:-

3. Graham Jones
4. James Grieves
5. Shane Parker
6. Corey Blackman
7. Eric Carrillo.
