No Sting Expected from Wasps
Preview v Newport, Posted 13/07/04
Following on from the last week's trials and
tribulations for the Tigers, this Thursday will hopefully provide a
springboard for the Tigers to get back on course when they face Newport
Wasps at Ashfield.
Newport have, to say the least, been very poor this
year and look set to battle with Newcastle for the wooden spoon. The
Tigers cannot afford to be too complacent however as any team with Craig
Watson in it is capable of producing a few surprise race results.
Mads Korneliussen is highly rated by some but it will
be interesting to see how he copes with the Ashfield circuit. Recently
released by Newcastle, Kristian Lund has a lot to prove and has had
a few outings on the Glasgow track before and could steal a few points
from the home side. Pavel Ondrasik is Newports answer to James Grieves-poor
away from home!
There is no doubt that the Wasps are missing the influence
of Tony Atkin and they looks very weak at reserve with Carl Wilkinson
and Barrie Evans. Corey Blackman should be looking to rack up a few
points from reserve berth against this pairing.
The Glasgow riders will be keen to return to form but
look likely to have to do it without Paul Bentley who is still struggling
with the injury received against Reading last Sunday.
Stancl Grieves and Parker should all be looking for
big scores, as previously mentioned Corey and Eric won't have a better
opportunity to outscore another teams reserves, and even Dicken should
be able to get a few points under his belt.
Against such poor opposition, anything less than a
hefty victory will surely be a disappointment and teh Tigers should
be looking to get near to the 60 point mark.
