Tigers on the Prowl

Preview v Sheffield, Posted 17/07/04

Sheffield provide the opposition for Glasgow this weekend in what could be a very tough meeting. Without their influential captain Sean Wilson for most of the season, Sheffield have drafted in the impressive Simon Stead as a guest for this one.

Sheffield have been somewhat erratic away from home this season although they are on a high following their 45-45 draw with Hull through the week.

Andre Compton is always a 'hard' opponent one way or the other and no doubt George Stancl will want to ensure Compton is well behind him in this meeting.

Ricky Ashworth must be one of the most improved young riders this season although he is not always happy round the Ashfield track. He top scored at Hull on Wednesday though.

Andrew Moore and Richard Hall will surely struggle to score many points, both appearing relatively weak second string.

It could however be very interesting at reserve. Ben Wilson has been on good form amd does know the Glasgow track a little better than most young reserves, having made his PL debut here for Glasgow. Meantime James Birkenshaw has only just come back into the team after being contraversially dropped for Shane Colvin and then re-instated a few meetings later. I would still expect Eric to come out on top at home although Corey may struggle.

Glasgow's only injury problem appears to be Lee Dicken who it is understood is struggling to be fit for this clash with a knee injury and the Tigers will probably end up having to operate rider replacement. Its not up to me to suggest that this will probably result in more points but I will anyhow!

The win should be a home one, but only by around ten points and that means no bonus.

Expected Team Line Ups:-

Glasgow:-
1. George Stancl
2. Paul Bentley
3. r/r (for Dicken)
4. James Grieves
