Home Team win Premier Pairs

Home advantage was too much for other pairs
to overcome at Smallmead and the home pairing of Phil Morris and Danny
Bird lifter the Premier Pairs Title. However, there was a spirited display
from our boys at the Reading track.
Drawn in the tougher of the two groups,
Shane and George opened the meeting with a race against the Rye House
pairing of Neath and Robson getting a disappointing second and fourth
place.
The next appearance in heat 7 against
Stonehewer and Collins was a little more succesful with a second and
third place ensuring they took the advantage in this heat. Full marks
in heat 13 against the Exeter pairing put them in a good position to
challenge for the semi-final placings and a repeat of that performance
in heat 19 took the Tigers through.
Unfortunately it meant that they were
up against the home team in semi-final 2 and although both Stancl and
Parker made a good start, Morris managed to get past Stancl before the
back straight and Bird blasted round the outside to take the lead by
the end of the first lap and it was all over.
Sadly although Parker was to win the
consolation final, George's last place and the normal paors scoring
meant that third place went to the Rye House pairing of Neath and Robson.
