2005 - Fourth Signing Announced

Posted 19/11/04

Glasgow Tigers have today announced that George Stancl WILL return next season to Ashfield in the Tigers colours.

The news - and its timing - is very welcome given all the 'silly season' rumours that were going around ahead of the BSPA conference.

Unsurprisingly George's form particularly towards the end of last season had made him an attractive target for any of next years Premier League clubs and rumours were rife that he would be plying his trade elsewhere next season.

The most persistent rumour was that he would be heading to Newcastle, probably fuelled by the revelation that he was moving his workshop to the Tyneside area.

However, although some who would like to consider themselves 'in' with the Newcastle set up were confident that he would head to Brough Park, it was not to be.

It is understood that tougher competition for his signature actually came from closer to home with both Berwick and, in particular, Edinburgh desperate to name him in their 1-7 next season. With Edinburgh looking for three new heat leaders he was one of the names at the top of their list.

The announcement also confirms that he will now be under the mechanical wing of former Tiger Graham Jones.

Hopefully the engine failures that George managed to overcome to a great extent towards the end of last season will remain a thing of the past and the pairing of Stancl and Parker will build on the twenty 5-1's they scored together last season.
