Scottish Cup Second Leg
Posted 01/10/04
The last competitive team meeting of the season
takes place this Sunday with the destination of the Scottish Cup still
in the balance.
Edinburgh hold an 11 point lead from the first leg
and the Tigers will have their work cut out to over turn this but it
is not impossible.
Glasgow will have two guests in the line up and whilst
this would usually weaken a team, the choice of guests could actually
work in Glasgow's favour. Trent Leverington will ride in place of Eric
Carrillo at number 2 and has already shown this season that he is capable
of a good score round Ashfield. In addition Phil Morris comes in to
replace James Grieves ensuring there is still a controversial character
in the number four race jacket.
Edinburgh's team is expected to be unchanged but at
least two of their riders have the added incentive of wanting to go
out on a high in their last competitive match for Edinburgh. Frede Schott
has already announced his retirement and it has also been announced
that if Peter Carr does carry on racing next season it will not be for
the Armadale side. There is however the matter of a social night on
Saturday night for Frede Schott's benefit season so there could perhaps
be one or two 'tired' monarchs in the line up. It's unlikely that this
will have any effect where a derby is concerned though.
Things look quite finely balanced with Edinburgh perhaps
having the advantage in the reserve berths but Glasgow looking the better
second string. A lot could depend on the Tigers heat leaders and particularly
how Shane Parker fares against Rory Schlein.
The last couple of meetings between the teams have
been a bit of a damp squib so lets hope this Sundays meeting produces
some good close racing and of course a home win.
