Rye House v Glasgow Preview
Posted 02/09/04
Hoddesdon is the venue for the first of this
weekends three day southern tour for Glasgow Tigers when they take on
Rye House. Both Glasgow and Rye House are still in contention for a
Young Shield play off place so there is everything to ride for.
Glasgow hold a slender 1 point league from the Ashfield
meeting where Steve Masters was in top form for the Rockets. His recent
form has been erratic but he will be a strong back up to the top two
of Neath and Werner. Werner tends to be poor away from home but is good
round his home track. Chris Neath has been doubling up with Wolves this
season but has recently been suffering from a dip in form when riding
for Rye House.
Davey Watt only just remains outside the top two for
September and has been in good form recently although Scott Robson has
struggled at home.
Popular with the home fans, even though erratic on
track, Tommy Allen has returned to the Rye House side after a short
spell out due to a non-speedway related incident. With riding in the
Conference for Rye this season as well as Premier he does know the circuit
well and will be a strong reserve.
Rye are without their normal 7th man with Steve Boxall
breaking a toe in his workshop earlier this week and being declared
unfir to ride. Likely replacement is Raiders Luke Bowen, who has deputised
a couple of times already this season and hasn't looked out of place.
Overall this is a tough one for Glasgow with a lot
to ride for. Eric Carrillo will move into the main body of the team
now with David McAllan going into reserve and although this should suit
David, Eric may struggle a little. George may do well here as the track
is renowned for being a gaters track but this may work to Shane's disadvantage.
Should Grieves make it, and I believe he will, he may struggle on the
tight track. Bentley has been on good form recently and hopefully this
will continue. Rookie reserve James Cockle is returning to his home
track and will no doubt feel he has something to prove which will hopefully
work in our favour.
In reality though it is unlikely to be a good night
for Glasgow and although the meeting should be close, Rye House will
probably be in possession of the 3 points at the end of the night, thus
also denting hopes for Glasgow to qualify for the Young Shield.
