Rider Change for PLRC-An Opinion
Posted 17/09/04
Its the worst kept secret in Scottish speedway
at the moment that Rory Schlein will be riding in the PLRC for Edinburgh
on Sunday.
As Frede Schott is still listed in all the official
announcements presumably his injury/illness will develop over the next
24 hours to allow Schlein to take his place.
Rory will definately be one of the favourites once
it is confirmed he is riding and is one that Shane will have to watch.
It will probably be a bigger surprise if Rory is not in the final.
This definately makes the field stronger and Shanes
task harder but looking at the wider picture surely it is better for
speedway as a whole that as strong as possible a field is assembled
for such an event.
Instead of teams having to engineer injury/illness/other
commitment, surely teams should be allowed to nominate any one of their
top three for this event and stop the annual game of manipulating the
rider qualifying.
Hey you never know the paying public might then get
to know what is REALLY going on, which is probably why it will never
happen.
Last year is an ideal example. At least James Grieves
had the gall to appear but it would no doubt have strengthened the meeting
if Glasgow had been able to nominate George Stancl instead.
