To Hull and Back

v Hull, Posted 21/07/04

If Glasgow fans had any illusions of pulling off a shock victory down in Yorkshire they were brought down to earth with a bump as Hull started the meeting with three succesive 5-1's.

Glasgow were only spared the fourth 5-1 in heat 4 due to an engine failure for Karlsson

The track was a gaters paradise and unfortunately for Glasgow the Hull guys were gating far better. With virtually no passing lines races quickly became spread out and a little predictable after the first bend.

Heats 5 and 6 were shared and although Bentley pressed Karlsson in heat 7 the Swede was to hold him off tohelp Hull score a 4-2.

One of the few passes of the night occured in heat 8 but sadly it was Sanchez passing Grieves. Already 16 points behind, Glasgow put Parker in as a TR in heat 9 but yet again the Hull pairing outgated the Tigers and although Parker challenged initially, the Hull pair won by quite a distance.

Another 5-1 followed from the gate in heat 10 before Glasgow recorded their first-and to be only - heat advantage of the night in heat 11. However this was merely down to Stancl as a TR and Grieves being able to outgate Parsons.

Heat 12 and yet another 5-1 from the gate before a little racing in heat 13 when Stancl had to work hard to keep Karlsson behind him to claim second place.

The Glasgow fans who travelled were glad when this one was all over. Hull deservedly won this meeting as their gating was far superior but for anyone wanting to see racing, Craven Park was not the place to be. Just how much that was down to the track and how much it was down to Glasgow riders looking dis-interested was the topic for discussion on the long journey home rather than any actual racing.

A poor effort from the Stripes and a depressing night to be a Glasgow fan.

The scorecard and heat details can be found here.

Tiger Points:

George Stancl ** Mainly because he gated slightly better than his team mates
James Grieves * Very Poor
Lee Dicken   Absolutely shocking from someone at supposedly his home track
Paul Bentley ** Poor but tried
Shane Parker ** Very poor by his standards
Mark Thompson ** He tried
Eric Carrillo ** Struggled to get to grips with the track
