Hull
Confident
Posted 02/04/05
With Glasgow's form of late being so poor,
Hull come to Ashfield tomorrow confident of achieving their first
away win of the season according to their team manager Dave Peet.
Rather alarmingly, he also expects Lee Dicken to
score well as he 'should know the track well as a former Glasgow rider'.
Last years performances at Ashfield by Lee suggest otherwise. Former
Tigers asset Emiliano Sanchez will be coming to this meeting by way
of Italy where he is competing in the Italian Championships. He has
a 5am start from his base in Italy and is due to fly into Glasgow
at 11am which could have a detrimental effect on Hull second stringer.
Hull's top two are the very experienced Paul Thorpe and Garry Stead
and both ride Ashfield well. The remaining rider in the main body
of the team is Emil Kramer who, barring a poor first race, proved
himself to be very capable of scoring points on his last visit with
Hull last season. Craig Branney is expected to ride at number 6 and
he has so far this season been one of the in form reserves. As previously
stated, he will be joined by Edinburgh's Robert Ksiezak who continues
to improve meeting by meeting. Overall, confidence in the Vikings
camp is high and this alone will make them formidable opponents.
Glasgow are expected to stick with the new riding
order that they introduced on Friday with Jamie Birkinshaw riding
at no 2 and Matt Wethers at no 3. In addition, Gary Beaton will again
be replacing James Cockle. Whilst George and Shane have been riding
and scoring well at home, confidence in the middle order must be low
and an improvement particularly from Bentley and Birkinshaw is a must.
Once again a lot of pressure will be put on Trent Leverington with
probably at least one extra ride. Unusually heats 12 and 14 could
be the critical ones in a meeting that is expected to be quite close.
Rather than look towards creating a big enough win for the bonus point,
getting a home win just seems to be the main aim at the moment. To
do so, the middle order will have to provide the top two with a lot
more support than has been seen in the last couple of meetings and
it will be tough.
Expected line ups are: -
Glasgow
- George Stancl
- James Birkinshaw
- Matt Wethers
- Paul Bentley
- Shane Parker
- Gary Beaton
- Trent Leverington
Hull
- Paul Thorpe
- Emiliano Sanchez
- Lee Dicken
