Tigers
v Monarchs, Sunday 4pm
Posted 22/04/05
Tigers face their local rivals for the third
time this season with Edinburgh visiting Ashfield this Sunday.
In the short time since the two teams
last met at Ashfield there have been a few changes. Both teams will
be different at reserve - Cockle having returned whilst Ksiesak is
out, and although Edinburgh have undoubtedly been on better form recently
this counts for nothing in the Scottish derby. Thankfully Edinburgh
have also got proper race jackets now!
Last time round at Ashfield, Glasgow
were able to take advantage of a poor display by Nermark. Since then,
Nermark has shown a vast improvement and it will be a different matter
this time round. His confidence is high and he has been scoring well.
Harrison has continued to impress as he tends to do early in the season
and he could potentially cause a lot of damage once again. Whilst
scoring well at home, Ross Brady has not been doing so well away from
the Lothian Arena but there is always the 'parent club' factor to
be taken into account. Although he missed a couple of meetings last
week through injury, Theo Pijper has come back into the Edinburgh
team this evening and continued the fine form he has shown this season
and he does normally ride the Ashfield circuit well. Cam Woodward
has not been as impressive as the other middle order riders but has
still scored well, particularly earlier this season at Ashfield. The
reserve pairing will be an interesting one. Will Lawson knows the
Glasgow track inside out and can be expected to do well although guest
Kugelmann was poor on his last visit for Berwick.
Trent Leverington will expect to
be top reserve on the night and James Cockle may well offer Lawson
a greater challenge than he expects. Shane Parker and George Stancl
should continue their fine form at home although they will be pressed
more than last time. Once again it is the middle order that it worrying
for Glasgow. Barring the last Edinburgh visit Matt hasn't quite scored
as hoped at Ashfield. Perhaps the visit of his old team can inspire
again as Matt has shown he can ride the track. Bentley is still looking
to find form and on recent performances the indications are that both
he and Jamie Birkinshaw will struggle against the strong Monarchs
pairing although Jamie has been improving at Ashfield.
The score the last time flattered
Edinburgh a little but this meeting promises to be more competitive.
It will be a difficult meeting for the Tigers and Edinburgh will come
hoping to gain their first away points of the season. Glasgow will
have to be at their best to prevent it.
Fans are reminded that due to an
old firm football match this meeting will have a 4pm start time.

the following lines
