James Birkinshaw top scored this evening
guesting for Workington at his old home track, looking impressive
as he did so.
It was a good all round performance
from Birko as he recorded 17 points from 7 rides, including three
race wins.
James started with an easy win in
the reserves heat, followed by a third place in heat 6 when he was
all over Sean Wilson's back wheel but just could not get past. A win
from the tapes then followed in heat 8.He
came in as a reserve replacement in heat 10 but the Sheffield pair
gated and with passing becoming extremely unlikely on the Owlerton
track he was unable to get any better than third despite his efforts.
Heat 11 saw Birko in as a reserve replacement taking a TR and came
second to Compton, again from the gate. Heat 12 was one of the best
races of the night. Birko tried for all four laps to find a way round
the slower Hall but had to settle for second place. In his 7th ride,
Birko was again outgated this time by Ashworth but a mistake by the
Sheffield rider meant Birko was able to get past and there was no
way he was going to get caught.
Birko is always expected to do well
at Sheffield but he still has to go out there and perform so well
done James on a good performance.
Many thanks to Sheffield fan Dave
for the information from track side.
