40 Limit?
Posted 06/08/05

During a break in racing last night at the Scottish Open, Glasgow co-promoter Alan Dick surprised a lot of people by stating in an interview that Glasgow would be looking favourably on any proposal to reduce the points limit next season to 40 points.

The statement appears to have come out of the blue and indications were that it was for financial reasons.

However, when put forward by other promotions in the past, this idea has not met with much enthusiasm from other promotions and fans alike. Concern is that it would merely dilute the product and racing would be poorer. Teams would at most be able to have 2 heat leaders and the chances are it would be riders in the middle order, thos on say 6 point averages, who would find themselves potentially frozen out.

It was difficult to make out the entire interview over the Armadale tannoy so it may well be that it is just one of a number of options being considered although it certainly did not come across that way. There was also disquiet amongst some Tigers supporters that not for the first time this season Glasgow have made comment at Armadale before doing so at their own track.

Looks like its a case of watch this space on the points limit but meantime let the debate begin.
