Tigers
Go for Three in a Row
Posted 06/08/05
For the third time this season Hull Vikings
are the visitors to Ashfield tomorrow and whilst the Tigers will be
going for three in a row, Vikings will be hoping it is third time
lucky.
Having already got the better of Hull in both the KO Cup
and the Premier Trophy, Glasgow may have the psychological advantage
but it will not be easy against a Hull team starting to find some
form and who are renowned to be good gaters - something that has been
of considerable help at Ashfield in recent weeks.
Although an ex-Tiger, Emiliano Sanchez's form when visiting
Ashfield this season has not really threatened. Garry Stead has always
got the capability to be a formidable opponent but has tailed away
towards the end of the previous meetings. He is also just back from
injury. The middle order consists of the always controversial Paul
Thorp, Emil Kramer and Craig Branney. Branney has shown in one of
the previous encounters that he is comfortable on the Ashfield track
whilst Kramer has had one good and one not so good meeting this year
at Glasgow. New and rather erratic Italian Simone Terenzani at reserve
struggled on his previous visit and does not appear to like the smaller
tracks. He will be accompanied by Luke Priest who stands in for the
injured Joel Parsons. Luke guested for Reading at Glasgow in May and
struggled to make an impact.
For Tigers the main concerns have got to be at middle order
yet again. Stefan is recovering from a broken rib and Claus' form
has been poor of late although thanks to his partner he has picked
up a few points. George seems to be finding a bit of form again. At
reserve, James Cockle's confidence is low but he hopes to have his
engine newly tuned for tomorrow in a bid to turn things round. Adam
will be looking to continue his recent form and against one of the
weaker looking reserve pairings in the league it could hopefully be
a decent day for the youngsters.
With Tigers still to visit Craven Park in September for the
return leg, it is important not only for them to win tomorrow but
to win by a margin that will give them a realistic chance of at least
the bonus point next month in the run in for Young Shield qualification.
