Conference Threat
Posted 11/08/05

Today's Scottish Sun carries a small story from Alan Dick that if crowds do not go up then Tigers will go down.

The article states: -

'Gaffer Dick warned he'll take his Ashfield side into the Conference League in order to cut costs. He blasted "We can't sustain Premier League speedway on crowds of 700, the figures don't add up. Unless we can bump 100 on the gate we are talking about going into the Conference".'

Just what effect this would have on Scottish speedway as a whole is open to debate. Although fans sometimes moan about the number of times Glasgow and Edinburgh meet each other in a season, both clubs NEED these derby meetings, they need to be competing directly with each other and somehow it seems unlikely that Tigers v Dale Devils would capture the imagination of the fans in the same way as the current Tigers v Monarchs encounters.
