Tigers
Aim for First Bonus Point
Posted 20/08/05
Kings Lynn travel to Ashfield tomorrow for
the second of the back to back PL meetings between the two sides,
a meeting which has all the makings of an entertaining affair.
Glasgow will be favourites for the bonus point having only
lost by one point last Wednesday but the Tigers cannot afford to be
complacent. Add to the mix the Glasgow fans displeasure at the comments
made publicly by a Kings Lynn promoter about Stefan Ekberg and there
could even be a little needle involved and some of the passion called
for by a respected poster on Easy Tiger.
Topinka showed at the pairs he enjoys Ashfield although Olly
Allen did not fare so well that day. Psychologically they were both
comfortably beaten by Parker and Stancl at the pairs!
Much hype has surrounded young Aussie Troy Batchelor, riding
at number 2, and it will be interesting to see how and how quickly
he will adjust to the track on his first visit. His scores have been
impressive and indications are that with the exception of Stoke he
adapts quickly. From a speedway point of view, Troy could be well
worth watching. Ex-Tiger Kevin Doolan always seems to be consistent
when he returns to his 2003 home track. Its three Aussie's in the
middle order, Ashley Jones completing the trio. He is definitely the
weakest of the three and will also be competing at Ashfield for the
first time.
Kings Lynn had signed Matt Wethers at reserve but replaced
him recently in favour of German Tommy Stange at the beginning of
August. The young German may only be learning but he has scored in
every meeting he has ridden in, mostly however on large tracks. The
teams second Czech, Jan Jaros makes up the septet. Another rider facing
Ashfield for the first time he has scored well at reserve recently
after a bad couple of meetings at the start of the month.
The Stars look to be quite balanced but there are a lot of
unknowns with more than half their side making the trip to Glasgow
for the first time. It will be important for Glasgow to remain focused
and not get complacent after the excellent result at Saddlebow Row
last week.
