Another
Chance to Quiz the Promotion
Posted 01/12/05
Now that some of the details regarding what
was agreed at the BSPA annual conference have had time to sink in,
this Friday Glasgow fans have yet another chance to quiz the Promotion
on the decisions made as well as on the current situation with regards
to planning permission at Ashfield.
Glasgow Tigers Speedway Supporters Club have arranged the
question and answer session, which is scheduled to begin at 7.30pm,
this Friday evening at Ashfield with members and non members alike
being welcome.
Obviously the situation with regards to Ashfield will be
the issue most fans will hope to hear good news on.
One or two areas that have been reported on other sites regarding
the conference that we have not previously picked up on are: -
- Polish riders will only be able to ride in the PL next
season if they give a written guarantee that their Premier League
fixtures will take precedence over their Polish ones and this must
be ratifieed by the Polish Federation.
- The top scorers race will be decided on programmed rides
only.
- The AGM for the next 3 years is scheduled to be held in
Rugby
- Doubling up will now only be allowed if the rider holds
a British Licence AND was born in Great Britain.
The attitude of some other clubs towards the outcome of the
conference has been interesting. Edinburgh have clearly stated in this
weeks Star that there were late changes to the agreements of the pre-conference
meeting the week before which came 'out of the blue' although what exactly
these are was not detailed. Meanwhile new PL boys Mildenhall are unsure
of the reserve ruling commenting that some of the older CL riders will
now not be able to step up to the PL. Workingtons Tony Mole has mixed
feelings but feels the PL will remain a good product, Sheffield are
disappointed as expected whilst Rye House team manager John Sampford
is 'shocked' by the new points limit. Newports Tim Stone felt the conference
was a compromise although like Edinburgh he did not go into detail.
Isle of Wight and Stoke are 'pleased' at the outcome although Stoke
seem to think it is still to be decided if they will ride in the Northern
or Southern section of the KO Cup. Newcastle are 'encouraged' by it
whilst Berwicks Peter Waite has said he was only prepared to give notice
of intent to run because of the average restrictions and he feels this
conference was a 'step forward' for the future of British speedway.
