U21 Challenge for Matthew
Posted 25/01/05
This Saturday sees Matthew competing in the
Australian U21 Championships at Tamworth, New South Wales, in what
appears to be a very strong and competitive field.
Matthew is one of 10 seeded riders who are automatically
in the main event. The remaining 6 riders will be decided from a pre-qualifying
meeting of a further 16 riders being held the night before.
Amongst the field for the qualifying event is Cory
Gathercole who beat Matthew last weekend en route to the final of
the Jack Young Cup, emphasising just how competitive the U21 competition
should be.
Fridays pre-qualifying event will be contested by
Daniel Harding, Louis Myers, Michael Slade, Jay Herne, Arlo Bujega,
Brock Gates, Cory Gathercole, Karlis Ezergalis, Brendan Moore, Tom
Hedley, Scott James, Daine Stevens, James Holder, Tyron Proctor, John
Oliver and Ricky Barnass.
The draw for the main event on the Saturday evening
is as follows: -
01. Qualifier
4
02. Troy Batchelor
03. Chris Holder
04. Qualifier 2
05. Rory Schlein (holder)
06. Jason Doyle
07. Robert Ksiesak
08. Qualifier 5
09. Qualifier 1
10. Cameron Woodward
11. Mark Jones
12. Matt Wethers
13. Qualifier 3
14. Qualifier 6
15. Joel Parsons
16. Trevor Harding
Whilst Rory Schlein will undoubtedly be odds-on favourite
to retain his title, the meeting should provide some good close racing
with almost any of the riders capable of making the final. Assuming
the normal 16 rider format is used, Matthew will certainly have a
very tough opening heat.
