This weekends visit to Berwick promises
to be very challenging for Glasgow against a Berwick team who have
been in excellent form of late and recording high scoring home victories.
Adrian Rymel last weekend scored his first full maximum in
British speedway and has been persistently scoring well of late -
his lowest return being when guesting for Glasgow when 'only' scoring
8 from 4. Fellow heat leader Makovsky is a good gater but has been
showing lately that he is more than capable of passing.
Adam Pietraszko drops to reserve for Berwick and must surely
be one of the most formidable home reserves in the league, scoring
better than many second string riders. He is accompanied at reserve
by Carl Wilkinson. Wilkinson joined Berwick at the beginning of the
month from Boston - ironically his Boston replacement is James Cockle
- and has impressed not only with his scores but also with his effort
and commitment.
Scott Smith moves into the body of the team. Scud had a nightmare
ten days ago at Kings Lynn but other than that has been going from
strength to strength and has done remarkably well for a rider who
only started the season with one bike coming back from 18 months out
of the sport. Tom P Madsen seems to have got over his recent bad spell
in the last two Berwick meetings and will be keen to continue, especially
against young fellow Dane Leon Madsen. The remaining team member,
Chris Schramm, has had mixed luck this season and suffered recently
from bike troubles.
For the Tigers, obviously Shane is still recovering although
the extra couple of days rest after the Hull meeting was called off
will hopefully have helped him. George does tend to go well round
Shielfield and hopefully that will continue. Glasgow will be weakened
by not having Stefan Ekberg riding and the pressure will probably
be on Claus Kristensen to do well at his old track. Leon will hopefully
now make his debut in this one, weather permitting, again it seems
the sort of track he could do well on but it is going to be very much
a learning curve for him and to expect much would be unfair. The Tigers
reserve pairing are very inexperienced, only James Cockle having ridden
at Berwick before and that was as a guest a year ago. Whilst all eyes
have been on Leon Madsen making his debut, Adam Roynon will also be
riding his first meeting as a Tiger and again it will be a learning
experience for him.
The home team will obviously be strong favourites for this
one but that doesn't always go for anything. Berwick already have
a two point lead in the battle for the bonus point after the meeting
at Ashfield when they were the underdogs.
