'Mad'

Details of the circumstances surrounding
the return of Leon Madsen to Denmark and his announcement that he
would not be riding for Glasgow were made a little clearer last night.
There is a very strong feeling that Leon's ego played its
part, he felt that he was 'too good' for the Premier League. Despite
terms already having been agreed, the goal posts seemed to be getting
moved almost daily and often over surprising little things.
Part of the contract had involved use of a workshop, premises provided
by Stewart Dickson and already made use of by Shane, George and Stefan.
Team Leon were not happy with these facilities and wanted to be provided
with fully equipped workshops exclusively for their own use.
Mention is made on his website as to 'facilities' not being
acceptable. It is understood that by this he meant accommodation and
he was looking for all his washing to be done, including his race
gear, and someone to clean his bikes.
It is a great shame at very best that none of this was mentioned
or requested by TeamLeon before contracts were signed and two riders
lost their team positions. It is not only the Glasgow promotion and
fans who have been treated badly by Team Leon but his fellow riders
and in particular Trent who was the sacrificial lamb to allow him
his chance in British speedway.
If reports are to believed, Leon did not even have the decency
to mention this face to face with the Tigers promotion but merely
checked out of his accommodation leaving his Tigers race jacket behind
the desk.
Leon is a youngster who apparently has a lot of talent and
is taking his first tentative steps in foreign speedway. Whether due
to bad advice or personality he has done himself no favour's in the
way he has conducted himself throughout this saga.
The majority of fans, even from rival clubs, appear to be
behind Glasgow speedway and have sympathy for the promotion for the
shocking way in which a 16 year old child has messed Glasgow around
and damaged credibility.
We would never wish a rider ill and wish Leon well in the
future but suggest he has a lot of growing up to do before he can
succeed. Time will tell.
It is now time to get on with what is important to us - Glasgow
Speedway.
