Stancl Shines
Posted 14/07/05

It was a good evening's work for George Stancl as he recorded a score of 8 points from four rides as Ipswich won at Oxford.

He certainly did not look at all out of his depth at the higher level and certainly seemed to surprise the Sky commentators.

The following comments are made from watching television coverage.

In his first heat, the start looked unsatisfactory with McGowan looking as though he jumped the start but the referee allowed it to go. George took to the front and it looked as if he would record a win until the final bend when McGowan came sweeping round the outside of him to snatch the victory.

George's second ride was superb. Second out of the gate to Billy Hamill, he went round the outside of the American as if he was not there coming out of the second bend and went on to record a well deserved victory.

Heat 10 saw George off the unfavourable inside gate and a relatively uncompetitive and processional heat saw him come in third.

His final outing was in heat 14 from gate two and he executed an excellent blocking first corner to get the better of Oxfords Henka Gustafsson. Unfortunately Andersen had more grip around the outside and took the lead and the race comfortably but George did not look in any danger of losing second place.

An excellent display from George and a television interview after his second race as a bonus! In his interview George commented that he was 'only Premier League class', he was certainly well worth his place riding Elite League tonight.

Well done George.
