Rye
House Preview
Posted 16/07/05
Following on from Wednesday's KO Cup win
at Hull, Tigers go straight into next round action with a very tough
visit to Rye House this evening.
It is a very tough task that awaits as Rye have been invincible
at home this season and believe they are unbeatable round their own
track - an opinion that many comprehensive home victories backs up.
However Tigers are on a high after two away wins on the trot and will
be looking to give the Rockets something to think about.
Obviously Stefan has no form as yet round Hoddesden but his
recent form suggests he will cause the home side problems. On Glasgow's
last visit in May, George was outstanding whilst Shane also scored
well on a track he dislikes. Unfortunately Trent did not have a good
night at reserve on that night and will probably struggle. With Claus
starting to gain a little confidence again he could play a part with
his fast gating. Adam has ridden Rye House before but his last visit
there resulted in a bent frame from a crash at the end of 2003. He
now has a lot more experience and will be keen to prove himself. Fellow
reserve James Cockle obviously knows his old home track well and will
be keen to score more than the 3 points on his last visit.
Rye House have a solid team throughout. Chris Neath tops
their averages and despite a recent dip in form has still been impressive.
Fellow heat leader Stuart Robson has been virtually unbeatable round
Hoddesden. Brent Werner and Edward Kennett also have home averages
in excess of 9 points this year underlining their dominance at home.
The remaining member of their middle order is Daniel King. Bizarrly
the official Rye House site indicates that they will probably be operating
rider replacement for the youngster due to him aggrevating a knee
injury in Rye House's visit to Kings Lynn on Wednesday night. However,
King rode in the Ipswich side, including George Stancl, who recorded
an away victory at Oxford on Thursday so it seems reasonable to expect
him to be in the Rye House line up this evening. It could certainly
be to Glasgow's advantage if he does ride as his Premier League form
of late has been erratic. The reserve positions are filled by youngsters
Tommy Allen and Steve Boxhall. Allen has improved his riding style
considerably this year and seems to have mastered his home track,
posting some excellent scores from reserve. he is currently the highest
average rider holding down a reserve place in the Premier League.
Steve Boxhall has been a little more erratic of late after injuring
himself in a fall in mid June.
Overall formidable opponents and Glasgow will do well to
keep the score close enough to keep the chances of qualification open.
