KO
Cup Qualifier Will Be Tough
Posted 23/07/05
Following last weeks excellent result at
Rye House in the first leg of the KO Cup, most feel Glasgow have an
excellent chance of progressing to the semi final stage but they will
have to be at their best to pull back the 6 point deficit against
a strong Rye House side.
Six of the Rockets were in action at Rye House tonight in
the Vic Harding Memorial meeting whilst the seventh, Daniel King,
was riding EL with Ipswich so all riders have a long journey either
tonight or tomorrow morning.
Many Tigers saw Brent Werner for themselves in Friday night
as he guested for Edinburgh. he has readily admitted to machinery
problems at the moment and is frustrated by it. Stuart Robson and
Chris Neath represented Rye House in the recent pairs event at Ashfield.
Robson was undoubtedly one of the best individuals on show that day
and will provide Parker and Stancl with one of their stiffest test
of the season round Ashfield. Neath was definitely the weak link of
the Pairs partnership and is not particularly spectacular at Glasgow.
In recent weeks his form has dipped although he did make the final
of tonight's Memorial meeting despite a fall in the qualifying heats.
It will be Tigers first chance to see the highly rated Edward
Kennett at Ashfield although his form indicates that he could be a
major thorn in the home teams side. Fellow second string Daniel King
has come on leaps and bounds this season doubling up with Ipswich
although recent PL scores have been mediocre.
At reserve Tommy Allen has been riding well and his confidence
will no doubt be boosted by winning this evenings Vic Harding Memorial.
His last visit towards the end of last season saw him take a heavy
fall in his second ride and he will no doubt be out to make amends.
Steve Boxall is another of the crop of young British riders coming
through in reserve positions and scored in four of his five rides
on his visit to Ashfield last season, being the victim of an engine
failure in his other race.
Rye House are relatively strong throughout and Glasgow will
have to work very hard throughout. The meeting and qualification could
well be decided in the middle order but with so many racers on show
it should be a good meeting for the neutral.
