Workington head to Ashfield on Sunday looking
almost certain to secure the bonus point and confident they can inflict
another home defeat on the Tigers.
They are of course without the injured
Kauko Nieminen and will almost certainly be using rider replacement
after a move this week to secure a temporary replacement for the Finn
fell through. However as every rider in the team is eligible to take
one of his rides this does not necessarily make the Comets weaker.
Stonehewer's Ashfield expertise is
well known and his form in his last 3 meetings has seen him record
scores in excess of 15 points. James Wright had been struggling since
returning from injury but seemed to regain his form last week against
the Tigers at Derwent. He has now dropped back to reserve and will
once again be a very formidable opponent. As a result Kevin Little
slots back into the main body of the team alongside Scott Robson and
Shaun Tacey. Tacey is another rider who has hit form in the past few
weeks although Robson has been erratic. Ironically it was Tacey who
struggled in the middle order last time round at Ashfield along with
Little.
The remaining member of the team is
expected to be Jonathon Bethell, taking his first steps in the PL
at the ripe age of 32. The Cumbrian has ridden Glasgow a few times
whilst developing although obviously this will be his first PL visit.
He does list Ashfield as his favourite track however.
Glasgow will have to be a lot sharper
than last week at Derwent if they are to get anything out of this
meeting. The bonus point may well be out of reach but it is important
that the Tigers keep winning at home. It will be interesting to see
how certain riders react to this weeks revelations that Glasgow are
in talks with two possible signing targets.
