Cockle
Joins Boston

Glasgow reserve James Cockle has had his
contract with Sittingbourne terminated and it has been confirmed by
Boston that he is now included in their 1-12.
Riding for a Sunday track makes it hard for James to get
CL outings as the majority of CL clubs also ride on a Sunday. Since
the start of the season he has only ridden for Sittingbourne on three
occasions - all away meetings - at Weymouth, Oxford and Armadale respectively.
He was expected to make his home debut for the Crusaders this Sunday
in their double header but this will not now be happening.
Assuming the Mildenhall v Boston fixture on the 26th June
is postponed in favour of the CL Fours, James will ironically make
his debut for Boston at Weymouth, just as he did earlier this year
with Sittingbourne, scoring 13(5)
Its a return to last years conference
league side for James but the split with Sittingbourne seems to be
an acrimonious one with the following press release being issued yesterday
by Sittingbourne:-
"The Club
can confirm that it has parted company with James Cockle. The Londoner
who rides in the Premier for Glasgow Tigers had agreed to ride for
the Crusaders and had at one time been expected to make his home debut
in the forthcoming double-header.
However, it transpired that he has
been talking to other Conference clubs offering them his services.
Having established this to be the case – though unable to make
contact themselves with the maverick 19 year old, Sittingbourne have
decided to sack him from the squad.
Commercial Manager Steve Ribbons commented,
“We’re not interested in having riders who aren’t
committed to riding for this club. We feel badly let down by Cockle
who has gone behind our back but has never come clean to us about
what his so-called problems are. It’s particularly disappointing
as we were willing to take a chance on him even after the incidents
last season when he was a Boston rider and got banned for his part
in a brawl at Wimbledon.
"Whatever Cockle’s motives were in speaking to other clubs
we are not going to get involved in a Dutch auction, so we are parting
company with him officially from today”
