Newport Jinx Stikes Again
Posted 12/06/05

The Newport track looks as though it may have delivered another blow to Glasgow Tigers today as George Stancl crashed out of the Welsh Open.

Details are rather sketchy but apparently in his fifth and final scheduled ride George appeared to lock up entering the straight coming off the final bend, then picked up drive and hit the fence. The impact looked quite severe and although George did get up and walk away he was later taken to hospital as a precaution.

It is understood that he has severe bruising and is in pain. Combined with the back injury he is already carrying from last weeks hefty meeting with the fence it will no doubt be causing quite a bit of concern for the Glasgow promotion.

In the final heat, Patrik Linhart had an almost identical accident on the same spot and critisism was made of that part of the track by a couple of the riders.

In his previous four races, George had recorded three second places and one third. He needed to win his final race to have any prospect of qualifying for the final.
