Newport start their Northern tour at Glasgow
on Thursday night where they will defend the slender seven point lead
they built up last Friday at Queensmeadow.
Like Glasgow, Newport are also missing their Aussie no 5
through injury and they are expected to use Theo Pijper as guest.
He will be accompanied by Mads Korneliussen riding at no 1. The young
Dane has been impressive so far this season although last season he
only beat Dicken and Blackman round Ashfield when riding at second
string.
Neil Collins has been riding well and the Ashfield circuit
should suit him. In contrast, Kristian Lund has been finding life
difficult of late, especially away from home, but will be keen to
carry on from the improvement he showed against Glasgow last Friday.
Riding at reserve since the start of the season has undoubtedly helped
Tony Atkin and he has responded by posting some very good scores both
home and away. He is a key man as well as being Newport's captain
and could be vital for Newport tomorrow night. It will be young Karlis
Ezergailis's first visit to Ashfield. The young Australian is in his
first full season of PL racing and still very much finding his feet.
He does tend to favour larger tracks and may not find Ashfield to
his liking.
Newport have undoubtedly been a surprise package away from
home this season and collected a few notable scalps on their travels
already. They should not be underestimated and although seven points
may not seem a lot, Glasgow will have to treat them with respect if
they are to capture the bonus point.
