Tigers
to Sign Young Dane?

The Scottish Sun today carries the story
that Glasgow are on the verge of signing hot Danish prospect Leon
Madsen over the next couple of days.
Leon has been turning many heads in his homeland as he has
progressed quickly and this season has on occasions beaten some Elite
league riders whilst riding for Slangerup.
It is important to remember he is still only 16 and will
presumably take a little while to settle into riding in a foreign
country but if he is half as good as some of the reports coming out
of Denmark suggest, this could be one major coup for the Glasgow promotion
and one that the Tigers will benefit from in years to come.
For those who don't have access to The Scottish Sun, their
report-by Peter Oakes-reads as follows: -
Danish dazzler Leon Madsen looks set
to become Glasgow's next big signing as they try to rescue their season.
Tigers will unveil new boy Stefan Ekberg
when he makes his debut against Stoke tomorrow and bosses have promised
fans there is more to come.
The Ashfield directors have lost patience
with the current squad and are ready to make sweeping changes after
a dismal start.
And last night Glasgow were close to
winning the race for 16-year-old sensation Madsen.
The ex-world youth champion has been
locked in talks with Glasgow bosses over the last few weeks and I
understand he is ready to sign.
Tigers officially finalised the deal
with Swedish Star Ekberg yesterday and they also told winter capture
Jamie Birkinshaw that his loan spell from Sheffield is now over.
If Glasgow pull off the Madsen deal
it will be one of the most stunning signings in the clubs recent history.
He should sign in the next 48 hours
and then make his Tigers debut at champs Hull on June 29. Tigers gaffer
Alan Dick said "We are determined to build a successful team
at Ashfield and we realise if we continue with the same team we will
stay near the bottom of the table.
"Normally we try to stick with
the team, get them together, blend and bond into a decent unit but
we lack the quality to do that.
"Everybody has given their all
but we just don't have the strength in depth to mount a real challenge
for honours.
"Our fans see other teams strengthening
while we had done nothing. We have brought in Ekberg and we want to
bring in a second Scandinavian rider so we can make a fresh challenge."
