Well
Out of Order Mr Drury!

Workington promoter Graham Drury is about
to make himself VERY unpopular with fans of Shane Parker and indeed
fans of speedway in general.
Despite Saturday being Workington's normal race night and
Friday their nominated 'off' night, the Cumbrian 'supremo' is adamant
that he wants to arrange the Workington leg of their knock out cup
meeting with Berwick on 17th July in direct competition with Shane
Parkers testimonial.
As well as denying Shane the use of Carl Stonehewer, always
a big crowd puller at Ashfield, it will mean that the fans of two
relatively local clubs - Berwick and Workington - may not be present.
It IS possible to do both meetings as Shane's party
is a 2pm start but some may decide it is an extra expense. It will
undoubtedly have an effect on the crowd at Shane's meeting as Workington
fans in particular would have travelled in numbers.
The date of Shane's meeting has been known since before the
season started. To have the ignorance to now try and run a meeting
in direct competition to the meeting shows a disgraceful lack of respect
for speedway riders as a whole, not just Shane, and an arrogance beyond
belief.
Had it been Workington's normal 'off' night, you could almost
justify it but it is not - thats a Friday - and you have to wonder
why, despite being fully aware of Shane's testimonial, Mr Drury is
adamant on running this meeting at 7pm the same day.
If Mr Drury cannot have the common decency to see the error
of his ways in this matter, the BSPA should step in and suggest they
run this on their 'declared' off night of Friday. Shane the person
and Shane the rider does not deserve Mr Drury's contempt.
