Press and Practice
Posted 11/03/05

The eight strong Glasgow Tigers squad for 2005 finally got to take to the Ashfield track yesterday for a fairly well attended press and practice day.

It was bitterly cold, even threatening light snow at one point, but it didn't affect the teams high spirits and they posed for countless photographs. Official ones will appear shortly on Ian Adams site with unofficial ones from Lioness here.

George Stancl started the on-track action and was absolutely flying all afternoon. New boys Jamie Birkinshaw and Matthew Wethers were picking their way round cautiously and getting to know the track. It has to be said that there was a problem with the third bend which affected most riders especially in the early stages.

Shane appeared to have bike problems early on, whilst Paul Bentley just quietly and effectively got on with things as usual.

The only faller of the afternoon was Trent who surprisingly slid off on the first bend although thankfully it was no more than that.

It is difficult to get an accurate picture from Press and Practice, especially with the track being problematical on the third bend, but the other rider who looked impressive on the day was James Cockle and it is just a shame that he will be missing for the first four meetings.

Despite the track, all eight riders appeared to enjoy the chance to blow away the cobwebs. Roll on Sunday!
