Rye
House Preview
Posted 14/05/05
The Tigers will not be relishing facing the
team that many rightfully regard as favourites for the League title
at Hoddesdon this evening.
The Rockets have certainly been flying
so far this season, only defeated twice in 14 meetings both times
away from home.
A strong balanced side is headed up
by Stuart Robson, an inspirational signing by Rye House during the
winter with most expecting his average to be higher. He is currently
averaging 10 round his home track and forms a formidable opening pairing
with Edward Kennett. Kennett has been touted as one for the top for
a couple of seasons and although he failed to establish himself at
Elite League level last season he is a significant threat at second
string currently averaging over 9. He is the current holder of the
Conference League Record at Rye House and will be expected to score
well this evening by the Rye House faithful.
American Brent Werner is currently
Rye House's other heat leader and again has been scoring on average
more than 9 points per meeting at home. However their top averaged
rider is second string Chris Neath who has been outstanding home and
away and he will be relishing the thought of Glasgow's weak middle
order this evening. The younger of the King brothers, Daniel, completes
the main body of the team for Rye House.
At reserve, they hope to have Steve
Boxall back after sometime out through injury. Boxall is another British
youngster expected to go far in the sport. He is partnered in reserve
by the younger of the Allen boys, Tommy. Tommy has a reputation for
being a little over exuberant on the track and has spent time out
already this season due to injury. He does seem to be more in control
these days and has increased his average accordingly.
Rye House have recently claimed some
noticeable scalps - they won over on the Island on Tuesday, making
it three away victories on a trot after winning at Somerset and Reading.
In their victory at Reading, all bar reserve Harland Cook who was
injured claimed at least one full win. At home they have already inflicted
very heavy defeats on Sheffield and Isle of Wight amongst others.
Glasgow on the other hand are struggling.
George does ride Rye House well but Shane, one of the other riders
we are relying heavily on at the moment, does not regard it as one
of his favourite tracks. Trent did not score particularly well there
for Stoke last season though apparently looked better than his points
tally suggests. Claus scored slightly better there but many of his
points in the meeting with Berwick were gifted. Matthew does not do
well historically on the track whilst Jamie Birkinshaw failed to score
there at all last season. James Cockle does obviously know the track
well, being a Rye House asset, but he will struggle against the two
Rye House reserves, both in their second season of PL racing.
It will take a very special team and
phenomenal effort to beat this Rye House side and sadly Glasgow are
far from being that team.
