Who
Rides for Berwick?
Posted 20/05/05
With all the speculation going around, the
only thing that can definitely be said about Sunday's visitors is
that they will be riding in Berwick race jackets.
Berwick pulled off what, to many, was
regarded as a surprise result when they got a well deserved draw at
Ashfield in the Premier Trophy but will have a rather different looking
team when they visit this weekend.
They no longer have Chris Schramm in
reserve, Chris was their top scorer on the last visit. It is very
likely that he will not be in the main body of the team either as
he is struggling to get back from his U-21 qualifier meeting in Austria
although the later start time gives him a slender hope. Fellow reserve
Jurgen Kugelmann has been at the centre of a 'will he stay or will
he go' drama for a couple of weeks. He indicated in local press in
Berwick last week that he was going, the indications are this week
that he is staying and will line up on Sunday. If so, it will be his
third visit this season to Ashfield and so far he has only beaten
one rider - in the reserve race.
Recent signing Scott Smith now drops
to reserve for only his fourth meeting of the season. He tends to
go better on the larger tracks. Michal Makovsky has moved into one
of the heat leader slots and will find it difficult. As his team mate
Piotr Dym has not completed 6 away meetings yet, Adrian Rymel will
remain at second string and can be expected to cause Glasgow problems.
He potentially looks as if he could be Berwick's top scorer.
There is a lot of doubt over whether
the two remaining riders, Poles Piotr Dym and Adam Pietraszko, will
be available on Sunday. They both ride in Poland and could be required
to ride for their Polish teams. If this happens, they can only be
replaced by Conference League guests. It has been known for a month
that the Polish fixtures had been re-scheduled for this Sunday but
it appears to have been largely ignored until this week. Dym struggled
last time at Ashfield and he has struggled to find consistency of
late. Pietraszko on the other hand has been on form and looked reasonably
comfortable with Ashfield last time round. If these riders are missing,
Berwick will be substantially weakened but more importantly the paying
public will be denied value for money thanks to the Berwick promotions
lack of foresight.
