Matthew Wethers will be hoping to celebrate
his birthday with a good return at Workington against a Comets side
who are once again affected by injury to one of their key riders.
Kauko Nieminen suffered a broken collarbone
when falling on his own last Wednesday at Kings Lynn. As he is second
highest in the averages, everyone can take a r/r for him. Stonehewer
is almost invincible round Derwent Park although Shane does have the
psychological advantage of beating him twice there earlier this season.
James Wright is not long back from
injury and is finding it a little tougher now he is in the middle
order. His home average is still in excess of 10 points however. Shaun
Tacey has settled well into the Comets side and has found form of
late. Scott Robson made the switch from Rye House to Workington during
the winter but still seems to be having problems coming to grips with
his home track.
Although they do not currently have
Wright at reserve, Workington do benefit from the experience of Kevin
Little. The drop to reserve appears to have helped him master the
Derwent Park track and he will be tough opposition for the Glasgow
reserves. The remaining reserve slot is expected to be filled by Scott
James, a young Australian who celebrated his 21st birthday last week.
He is taking his first tentative steps back in PL racing after missing
a year and a half due to a leg injury. He has so far struggled.
Glasgow came close last time at Workington
but have a much changed team this time round. Out are Gary Beaton
and Paul Bentley to be replaced by James Cockle and Claus Kristensen.
Claus scored a respectable 6 when there with Newcastle earlier in
the season whilst it will be James' first visit. In addition, Trent
has moved into the body of the team whilst Jamie Birkinshaw, who rode
and scored well last time round, is now at reserve and could be a
very important rider for the Tigers on the night.
