Shane 'In Negotiations'
Posted 05/11/05

Shane is now back in Australia for the winter and his 20 year testimonial at Gillman in Adelaide. As part of the publicity he was interviewed on Radio Fremantle earlier today and some of the interview touched on his racing in Europe.

On last season, Shane admitted it was not a good year for Glasgow last season, although on a personal basis it was probably one of his best years in 16 years of riding in the UK winning the PL Pairs with George and doing well in some individual meetings.

Opinion was asked on the effect of recent increase in television coverage for Speedway in the UK and Shane feels that it has progressed the sport a lot in recent years and could continue to do so perhaps even back to the levels of crowds in the 70's.

As he has said on many occasions in the UK as long as he is enjoying his speedway and feels he is still competitive he wants to keep racing. Inevitably this led to the question of where Shane expected to be riding in 2006 and as well as confirming he has already signed to ride in Sweden, Shane advised he was 'in negotiations' with Glasgow for a team slot for next season. This would mean him riding around 100 meetings next season, sometimes as many as four meetings per week.

A lot of the interview naturally concentrated on his 20 year testimonial on 3rd December. Some of the proceeds from the meeting will be going to the Make A Wish foundation, something that Shane didn't make much of but only commented there were a lot of deserving charities out there worthy of support. The radio interviewer suggested that he should look at getting internet coverage for the meeting, something that they are going to look into so watch out for details nearer the time. It certainly sounds a very entertaining event with a lot of different types of racing as part of the nights entertainment.

Shane is still undecided as to whether or not he will be taking part in the Australian Title this year but it is looking likely at the moment.

One more thing that Shane disclosed - he would like a go at the Australian Sprint Cars! However the interviewer sounded a little concerned when he talked about sliding them like a speedway bike!
