Stancl Wins Ashfield Classic in Style
Posted 03/10/05

George Stancl pulled off one of the rides of the season yesterday in the final of the Ashfield Classic to claim victory from ex-Tigers favourite James Grieves.

The final was contested by Stancl, Grieves, Adam Skornicki and Adrian Rymel, Stancl and Skornicki having qualified straight through. In the first running, Stancl made the gate and led from Skornicki and Rymel with Grieves apparently out of it until Rymel fell heavily on the third bend of the second lap.

In the re-run, George missed the gate and looked to have blown it. However he never gave up and finally got past Adam Skornicki at the end of the third lap and chased after Grieves. At full pelt, he went round the outside of Grieves on the second bend of the final lap then powered home to a well deserved victory with the home crowd going crazy.

It was not so good an afternoon for the other Glasgow riders. Shane Parker made the semi final - just - but came in last, Trent scored 4 points from his 5 rides whilst Claus Kristensen was only able to score a solitary point.

Congratulations to George Stancl, this years Ashfield Classic Champion, on a fine victory.
