Ashfield No More?
Posted 09/10/05

At the GTSSC dance last night, Alan Dick gave the clearest indication yet that the Tigers may not be racing at Ashfield next season.

Although it was stressed that Glasgow WILL be running in 2006, it was confirmed that the recent Department of Environment noise tests held at Ashfield had not been favourable although Tigers 'would appeal' the findings. Alan also stated that there are a number of other problems associated with Ashfield that he did not want to go into at this time but which were proving a major stumbling block.

It was further revealed that they had been looking at another venue within the city which had held speedway in the past as a possible solution to the current problems but that was at a very early stage.

Alan wound up by requesting that the support bear with the promotion whilst these problems are tackled and re-iterated once again that Glasgow will be racing in 2006.

It could well be that next weeks Junior Event is the last speedway meeting to be held at Ashfield.

Rumours have been going around in recent weeks of a possible new venue for speedway in Scotland with Strathclyde Park featuring prominently as the venue in many of them. It is however all rumour at this stage and although this would not solve next seasons problems, Glasgow fans will be hoping that a solution along those lines will happen and avoid the uncertainty in future years whilst also giving the Scottish Training School a permanent base.
