Unlucky George at Ipswich
Posted 13/10/05

George and Shane had varying degrees of success in the 16-lapper at Ipswich this evening with George being very unlucky at the end to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

In the qualifying rounds, George was equal top scorer on points after recording one win and three second places and went straight into the final. Shane however had a poor night only scoring one point although he went on to win the consolation final from Tomicek, Topinka and Batchelor.

Going into the final, many on the terraces felt George was one of the favourites along with Louis and Skornicki to win as he had looked impressive all evening. However in the first attempt to run the final, he was caught up in a first bend pile up along with Miskowiak, Jansson and Skornicki. George appeared to take the brunt of the accident and was down for some time before taking his place in the re-run. The accident appeared to have considerable effect on him and he was only able to beat Adam Skornicki, one of the other riders involved, in the final. The unique way in which the event is scored meant that he finished in 5th on the night.

Full scorecard and heat details can be found on live updates.

Bad luck George and hopefully there will be no lasting effect from the fall.
