Sheffield
Team Uncertain
Posted 09/09/05
Sheffield Tigers come calling this Sunday
on League duty and although uncertainty surrounds their team at the
moment they should provide a tough test for the real Tigers.
Sean Wilson and Andre Compton will be leading them. Although
Sean has not regained the form he showed before his injury he is always
a tough opponent despite his poor showing on their visit earlier this
season. Compton also struggled a little in that meeting but last season
was one of the most entertaining visitors to Ashfield.
In Ben Wilson, Sheffield have one of the surprises of the
season, increasing his average significantly. He rode his first ever
PL meeting for Glasgow Tigers at Ashfield and likes the track. The
remaining middle order is uncertain. Although Ricky Ashworth is named
in the side currently it is almost certain that he will miss the meeting
due to injury, Sheffield using rider replacement. According to this
weeks Speedway Star, Richard Hall will be riding at the U-21 grasstrack
meeting in Kent and if this is the case Sheffield will be severely
weakened - Hall was their top scorer on their last visit.
At reserve, there was also some doubt over Paul Coopers availability
due to grasstrack commitments. He rode well at Glasgow earlier this
season and could provide the Glasgow reserves with a stiff test. Remaining
reserve is young Canadian Kyle Legault. His recent form has been excellent
and he and Paul Cooper make a very strong bottom end for the Yorkshire
outfit.
With Sheffield only holding a 7 point lead from the first
leg, the bonus point is well within Glasgow's reach in what promises
to be an entertaining and close meeting. Sheffield have managed two
away victories in the league this season - at Somerset and Newport
- and came close to a third at Edinburgh thanks to a maximum from
George Stancl guesting for Sean Wilson.
