PLRC
Challenge for Shane
Posted 18/09/05
No action for Glasgow this afternoon as
this season Premier League Riders Championship is being held at Sheffield
this evening, Shane naturally representing the Tigers.
It is a strong line up and for once Shane won't be one of
the favourites although he can never be ruled out. Undoubtedly last
years champion Andre Compton and Sean Wilson will be in the running
on their home track but there are a few who will be out to spoil the
home fans party.
Zagar and Zetterstrom will be amongst the favourites along
with the Islands Craig Boyce. If rumours are true that Rye House's
Chris Neath will be replaced by Stuart Robson, he is another rider
who should be in the running.
The qualification of the top average rider for these events
does make the host track very important and many argue it should be
at the individual clubs discretion to replace their top average rider
with another who rides better at the host track. Surely that is no
more clearly illustrated than at Newcastle where James Grieves, whose
inability to ride Sheffield is legendary, represents the Diamonds.
Along with Adrian Rymel of Berwick, Stokes Alan Mogridge and to a
lesser extent Workington's James Wright these riders are unlikely
to challenge.
Shane will be aiming to cause a surprise and other possible
dark horses in the line up are Mark Lemon of Exeter-who was very unfortunate
in last years final-and Kings Lynn's Tom Topinka.
The riders will be hoping for a better track surface than
last seasons ploughed field but it is very hard to see past a home
rider winning. Any other result will be a very worthy champion indeed,
a home rider winning means they will always be accused of having home
track advantage no matter how they ride.
Good luck to Shane in adding the PLRC to his Pairs title!
