Shane
5th in PLRC

Shane made a determined effort in the PLRC
at Sheffield on Sunday but it was not to be as he just failed to make
the final.
Once again it was a meeting with an amount of controversy
and once again it surrounded Andre Compton.
Shane started slowly with two third places in his first two
heats, both of which were won from the gate. He then seemed to get
to grips with the starts a little better and followed it up with two
second places leaving him neeeding a win in his final heat to qualify
for the semi-final.
His final heat, heat 20, was a little controversial in itself.
If Shane won, he would go through at the expense of Andre Compton.
Comtpon had earlier been involved in yet another unsavoury incident
when he was excluded for knocking off Alan Mogridge, a rider he has
had recent 'disagreements' with. Mogridge was against Parker in heat
20 along with two riders who do not ride Sheffield well, Rymel and
Grieves. Although Mogridge was definitely quickest, he allowed Shane
to take the lead and then shepherded him for four laps to ensure the
victory Shane needed to put Compton out much to the disgust of the
Sheffield fans.
In a high quality line up for the semi-final, Shane was unable
to get the better of the fast gating Topinka and Lemon and despite
giving it every effort could only claim third position.
It was a good effort again from Shane although many would
say 'with a little help' and perhaps a littel reminder for Mr Compton
that you reap what you sow. Home rider Sean WIlson went on to win
the meeting ahead of Mogridge, Topinka and Lemon.
