Cockle 5th in David Nix Memorial
Posted 21/09/05

Like Shane in the PLRC, James Cockle finished in 5th for the David Nix Memorial Meeting at Kings Lynn this evening.

The meeting, in the same format as the PLRC was won by James' Boston team mate and David Nix's cousin Darren Mallett, who also scored the highest points total in the qualifying round.

James himself started with a second place behind Rye house's Darren Mallett in the re-run of heat 2. The first running had seen Mark Thomson - who broke his wrist last season guesting for Glasgow at Ashfield - loose control on the opening bend and career into the fence sustaining a back injury.

His next two races provided James with comfortable wins from the gate before a sick sounding bike finally gave up on him on the final lap whilst he was desperately trying to hold on to third place. The final race of the heat stages saw him finish second behind eventual winner Mallett but it was enough to take James through to the semi final. However Burchatt and Walker pulled ahead from the start and James was unable to make up any ground on them, coming in third.
