Berwick must have been confident of claiming
the bonus point at this meeting after getting a well deserved draw
at Ashfield in March, but it was the Tigers who were to claim it thanks
to an excellent ride in the run off from Shane Parker.
This report could possibly be made into one of the
shortest ever done - I could just write the riders finished in the
same position as they reached the first bend. I cannot recall a single
pass all evening and the only thing that kept the supporters going
was the counting towards the bonus point.
Glasgow started with a heat advantage thanks to a
win by Stancl and third by Wethers. Heat two provided one of the few
talking points when Kugelmann suffered an engine failure and instead
of heading for the centre green headed towards the pits causing the
referee to stop the race in the interests of safety. Positions remained
the same in the re-run and Glasgow had a four point lead after two
races.
Banger looked a little more like his old self as
he won the shared heat 3, heat 4 also shared after an excellent start
by Parker but a poor one by Trent. Trent was all over Piotr Dym but
on a track that would not allow passing he was unable to get through.
Stancl and Wethers got another heat advantage in 5 with ht 6 once
again shared, won by the fast gating Parker. The Berwick pair outgated
their Glasgow counterparts in heat 7, this time Bentley looking hard
for lines that just weren't there to allow a pass.
Heat 8 was shared whilst Glasgow got a 5-1 from the
gate in heat 9 with some good aggressive riding to the first bend
from Leverington and Parker. This was reversed in heat 10, Birkinshaw
coming off at the back after going slightly off the one line round
the circuit.
Heat 11 was shared but a home 5-1 in heat 12 allowed
Berwick to take the lead for the first time in the meeting. This score
was reversed in heat 13, Rymel falling on his own and Dym unable to
match Parker and Stancl. however another home 5-1 in heat 14 meant
it was all down to heat 15 and with Shane and George getting 1st and
third respectively we had the run off for the bonus point.
Shane was in excellent form all night gating well
and despite Berwick winning the toss, they elected for some reason
to go off the outside gate. Shane was easily able to push Pietraszko
wide going into the first bend and was away to win the race and bonus
point by a considerable margin.
Apologies for the standard of the report on this
meeting but it really is very difficult to find anything interesting
to say about a meeting which was solely from the gate. The track ruined
any chance their was of a good speedway meeting and they would have
been as well putting up a 'no overtaking' sign as the riders came
out of the pits gate. It is unfair to judge any rider on last night
other than to comment on their gating skills.
