2005
Glasgow Scoring Record
Claus came to Britain to ride for the first time with Berwick in
1999 and after a successful first season then went on to ride with
Swindon for two years. He returned to Berwick in 2002 on an average
of just under 8.
However his form started to suffer and by September 2004 he was
dropped by his parent club. He started 2005 as a Newcastle rider,
despite interest from Workington, but again struggled to find form
and was dropped by the Diamonds after only 12 meetings.
He comes to Ashfield, one of his poorest tracks, with a lot to
prove and wanting to kick start his career. It is a major gamble
by the promotion and one that is not going down well with the fans.
on the positive side however Claus has shown in the past that he
is capable of riding amongst the best of the Premier League and
was one of the Berwick team who won the Fours at Coventry in 2002.
His reputation is that of a nice guy, one who is easy to deal with
and he has proven he can take good natured teasing after the Speedway
Star revealed he enjoyed playing bingo, causing his team mates at
the time to nick name him Housey Housey Clausey. He is also the
second member of this years team who chose Speedway over football
as he had the option of going professional with Holstebro, his home
town team.
