First
Home Derby of the Season
Posted 29/04/06
Slightly
later than usual, Glasgow welcome Edinburgh to Ashfield for
the first derby meeting of the season in a meeting with a
few uncertainties.
Following
the hokey cokey announcement about Sean Stoddart being dropped,
its not altogether clear if Sean will ride against us tomorrow.
He did ride on Friday but was dropped tonight for the Monarchs
meeting at Berwick in favour of Richie Dennis. Sean knows
Ashfield well and has ridden well there in the past. However,
our friends at Buxton have advised they believe that Richie
Dennis will actually be riding for Edinburgh on Sunday but
that has yet to be officially confirmed. Whichever rider lines
up, Robert and James should feel confident against them. The
major challenge from that area will undoubtedly be Derek Sneddon
and it would be very foolish to expect another meeting from
Derek along the lines of his recent guest appearance for Newcastle.
Henrik
Moller will be competing on the track for the first time.
He can be a bit of an enigma and it will depend on which Moller
turns up. He does hold the Redcar track record. Rusty Harrison
has been erratic of late due mainly to illness but his performance
at Berwick tonight for the Monarchs seems to indicate he is
now over that.
Undoubtedly
the monarchs strength lies in the middle order. Theo Pijper
has been outstanding as has William Lawson and both will be
looking for a hefty points total at a track they ride well.
Add to that Matthew Wethers who has also found form of late
and the Monarchs look very strong here.
It
will be important for Shane and Danny to stand up ad be counted
at this meeting. Kauko has been immense since signing but
can expect to have his stiffest competition from fellow middle
order riders this season.
Derby
meetings should always be exciting affairs and this one has
the makings of a good meeting with plenty of close racing.
Tigers should come out on top but will have to work hard to
get enough of a lead to give the opportunity of the bonus
point.
